Year 1 Speech Contest: How Can I Make the World a Better Place?

On Monday, 10th November, and Wednesday, 12th November 2025, our Year 1 students delivered thoughtful and inspiring speeches as part of their Term 2 EC speech contest. Rooted in Waseda Shibuya’s inquiry-based learning approach, this project encouraged students to think deeply about an important question: How can I contribute to making the world a better place?

Each student selected an idea that mattered to them — from environmental action and innovative inventions to kindness, inclusivity, and community involvement. They explored how their chosen actions could create positive change, organized their ideas into a clear structure, and crafted a two-minute speech that communicated purpose and conviction.

The Term 2 presentations highlighted creativity, critical thinking, and passionate expression. Students not only strengthened their public-speaking skills but also reflected on the meaningful impact individuals can make in shaping a better world.

Year 2 Speech Contest: A Cultural Encounter

On Tuesday, 11th November, and Thursday, 13th November 2025, our Year 2 students delivered heartfelt and reflective speeches as part of their Term 2 English Communications project. In line with Waseda Shibuya’s inquiry-based learning approach, this task encouraged students to explore personal experiences through curiosity and reflection.

Each student selected a true cultural encounter that had shaped their thinking—whether through travel, food, family traditions, conversations, or a meaningful misunderstanding that led to personal insight. They examined why the experience mattered, organized their ideas clearly, and crafted a two-minute speech that expressed both individuality and growth.

The Term 2 presentations showcased unique perspectives, strengthened students’ confidence in public speaking, and deepened their appreciation for the diverse cultural experiences that shape who they are.
